The clean up continues…..

By March 3, 2014 August 24th, 2017 Great Barrier Reef Islands

On Saturday the 1st of March 2014 we were back on Stradbroke Island for another clean up day. Thanks to the hard work from the volunteers, Amity Point beach looks cleaner than usual!
The clean up was a collaboration between Reef Check Australia, Clean Oceans Australia and Uni Dive. Together we were able to remove 30kg of rubbish from the area both above and below the waterline. This included 262 pieces of plastics (if anyone missplaced a pirate patch we found it!), an estimated 7 kilometres of fishing line and 1107 cigarette butts.

This successful clean up’s data will be forwarded to the Tangaroa Blue organisation to further the science on marine debris. As with all Wild Mob events, it’s not all work and no play. We were able to fit in a coastal walk at Point Lookout were we spotted a few Green Turtles which was followed by a refreshing Gelati before the barge trip back to Brissy
